چکیده

We provide an efficient reduction from the problem of querying approximate multiplicatively weighted farthest neighbors in a metric space to the unweighted problem. Combining our techniques with core-sets for approximate unweighted farthest neighbors, we show how to find (1+ ε)-approximate farthest neighbors in time O(logn) per query in D-dimensional Euclidean space for any constants D and ε. As an application, we find an O(n log n) expected time algorithm for choosing the center of a star topology network connecting a given set of points, so as to approximately minimize the maximum dilation between any pair of points.

SOME NEW RESULTS ON REMOTEST POINTS IN NORMED SPACES

In this paper, using the best proximity theorems for an extensionof Brosowski's theorem. We obtain other results on farthest points. Finally, wedene the concept of e- farthest points. We shall prove interesting relationshipbetween the -best approximation and the e-farthest points in normed linearspaces (X; ||.||). If z in W is a e-farthest point from an x in X, then z is also a-best approximati...

L_1 Geodesic Farthest Neighbors in a Simple Polygon and Related Problems

In this paper, we investigate the L1 geodesic farthest neighbors in a simple polygon P , and address several fundamental problems related to farthest neighbors. Given a subset S ⊆ P , an L1 geodesic farthest neighbor of p ∈ P from S is one that maximizes the length of L1 shortest path from p in P . Our list of problems include: computing the diameter, radius, center, farthestneighbor Voronoi di...

Some Geometric Problems on OMTSE Optoelectronic Computer

Optical Multi-Trees with Shuffle Exchange (OMTSE) architecture is an efficient model of an optoelectronic computer. The network has a total of 3n/2 nodes. The diameter and bisection width of the network are 6 logn − 1 and n/4 respectively. In this note, we present synchronous SIMD algorithms on an OMTSE optoelectronic computer for the following problems in computational geometry: Convex Hull, S...

Feature Selection for Clustering by Exploring Nearest and Farthest Neighbors

Feature selection has been explored extensively for use in several real-world applications. In this paper, we propose a new method to select a salient subset of features from unlabeled data, and the selected features are then adaptively used to identify natural clusters in the cluster analysis. Unlike previous methods that select salient features for clustering, our method does not require a pr...

An Enhanced Sparse Representation Strategy for Signal Classification

Sparse representation based classification (SRC) has achieved state-of-the-art results on face recognition. It is hence desired to extend its power to a broader range of classification tasks in pattern recognition. SRC first encodes a query sample as a linear combination of a few atoms from a predefined dictionary. It then identifies the label by evaluating which class results in the minimum re...
